Celebrating Bartlett 2009 in Brigus
In 2009, the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador will host Celebrating Bartlett 2009 - a province-wide, year-long program of events and attractions featuring symposia, heritage fairs and ceremonies.
Captain Robert Abram Bartlett, a native son of Brigus whose extended family still exits in the region, was a world-renowned Arctic explorer and mariner during the first-half of the 20th century. Former Lieutenant Governor Ed Roberts chairs the Celebrating Bartlett 2009 Steering Committee.

Special Bartlett celebrations are being planned for July 10-13 in the Town of Brigus. Events include the Arrival Ceremony for the Arctic schooner Bowdoin as she begins her 12 port Newfoundland and Labrador tour. There will be boarding and sailing opportunities in Brigus as well as a full 3 day program of entertainment, exhibits, drama and community activities.
Centre for Marine Simulation in St. John's
Starting in July the Centre for Marine Simulation (CMS) of Memorial University in St.John's will recreate The Roosevelt - Captain Bob Bartlett's ship-on the full motion bridge simulator. The public will be invited to see, hear, and feel what it was like on that vessel in the North in 1909.

 The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will be coming to many towns in the Northern Avalon on November 13th and 14th, 2009. A total of 330 torchbearers will be involved in the Newfoundland and Labrador leg of the relay, as the torch travels 3,120 kilometres throughout the province over five days. Anyone can apply to carry the torch - information about how to be a 2010 Olympic Torchbearer>> .
