Participate and Enjoy! The Annual Festival of Lights is running from Nov 28th to Jan 6th. Illumination Parade and Opening Ceremonies - Nov 28th Bay Roberts will be participating again this year in the Winter Lights Competition. Make Bay Roberts a Competition Winner for 2007- 2008. The Town of Bay Roberts has been entered in the 3 001- 10 000 population category where we will compete against other larger Canadian towns. Let's make sure that we OUTSHINE all the others! How Can We OUTSHINE? The Winterlights Celebration encourages municipalities of all sizes to decorate their communities with festive lights and schedule events, in an effort to enhance community spirit and promote Canada as a winter destination. This is a project that the citizen's of Bay Roberts and surrounding towns such as from Brigus to Spaniard's Bay and Upper Island Cove can really get involved in and show others our sense of community pride and spirit. It is a recreational, family-oriented event that is affordable to all, and celebrates the Christmas holiday season. The Special Events Committee will focus on developing new and existing programs such as: the tree lighting ceremony, Christmas concerts, church services, Christmas breakfasts and dinners, skating parties, Santa Claus Parades, community caroling, and mummering. The Importance of GOOD PHOTOGRAPHY! Click here for information about taking good photographs of your events, so that we can include your photographs in our presentation to the judgesand place them online. How Can YOU Get Involved? Put up lighting on your home, business, or neighborhood parks and open spaces Let us know about your event that will be held between November and February and we will advertise it for free. Remember the competition is for WINTER events, so that it does not end with the Christmas Season. Use existing holiday celebrations as part of this project for example a Winterlights Celebrations Christmas Concert Show your community support and be in attendance at the Santa Claus Parade The Judges will be in town on December 13th. Schedule special events for that time to show them that Bay Roberts is a fantastic winter tourism destination. Share your new ideas for more celebration activities with the Community Committee Join us! Please consider volunteering for this celebration as an individual, group or business. All you have to do is let us know about your winter event, held between November & February and we'll do our best to help you promote it! The Winterlights Celebration Program's judges weigh community involvement very heavily. We must ensure that they know about any projects or events hosted in our community between November and February so they are included in the judging process/final report. This includes everything from Christmas pageants, concerts, candlelight walks, Santa parades, outdoor festivals, carol singing, sleigh rides, Christmas tree exhibitions, ice skating trips, ice fishing derbies, winter sports competitions, family acclivities, food events, snowmobile rallies, church events--just about anything that occurs in the spirit of the winter & holiday season! The most important point in all our efforts is that they are locally created, sponsored, and supported by the whole community. We are asking you or your organization to use your existing holiday celebrations as part of this project and let us know about it!
