Chomper's Tips

SALES SLIPS

Sales slips from Sobeys and Dominion can earn cash for any group or organization to raise funds. Churches and School, SPCA and the Janeway are some of the ones I know.

For every $500. worth they will give you $1. That does not seem like much, but if each family in the community passes in their sales slips - it can add up. Good recovery from something you normally put in the garbage.

There is also a container for Campbell's soup labels in Powell's and Coley's Point School.

GARDEN LEAVES AND LAWN CLIPPINGS

If you put leaves a a black garbage bag and store at the end of your property for a year or 2, they will rot down and form leaf mold and be great compost for your flowers or vegetables.

COMPOSTING IS A MUST

It cuts down on your own household garbage. Keep it covered with soil, dry leaves, tree needles etc (layering) and this may help to keep mice or rats away. [They live in the woods and are hungry in the winter too. ]

RECOVER

Organic waste makes up as much as 30% of all the waste generated in Newfoundland and Labrador. Composting is an efficient and effective way to reduce the amount of waste sent to our landfills.

With little effort, most households can reduce the amount of organic waste going to waste disposal sites, help reduce pollution, lower waste collection and disposal costs, conserve resources, limit greenhouse gases, and create a healthy and beautiful lawn and garden.
