Harbour International Ltd
Background

The principals of the Moores Group of companies have been providing first class services to the vessel owners in the North West Atlantic since 1956.

The initial business relationships developed with the deep sea fleets of Western Europe. At that time, the waters around Newfoundland and on the Labrador Coast teemed with cod. The sailing vessels from the Faroese Islands, Norway and Portugal found a reliable Newfoundland supplier, Alec D. Moores, to maintain their distant water fishing operations.

Today's Company

This business rapport, that began over 50 years ago, is maintained in the shrimp fishery today. This international industry is now firmly established inside the Canadian zone and in NAFO areas 3L and 3M. It is the opportunity and challenges that such activity provides that has always been of utmost interest to our companies.

The associations and resulting friendships that have been generated are extremely important. These most valuable connections are cherished. All individuals who make up the management and staff "TEAM WORK" with the simple motto: "There are those in Newfoundland who may be able to do things as well but absolutely no one can do it better."

The Closure of Canadian Ports to Estonian and Faroese Ships in 2002

On December 13, 2002 the Honourable Robert G. Thibault, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, announced that Canada is reopening its ports to the Estonian fishing fleet, lifting a ban imposed last April. However, the ports remain closed to Faroese Ships. The Faroese have provided assurances they will take better control of their fleet, but have not demonstrated their willingness to comply with NAFO quotas and rules. Canada will continue to consult with the Faroese authorities in an effort to resolve the Canadian government's outstanding concerns.

The port closures have had a tremendous economic impact on the town of Bay Roberts, since Harbour International LTD (Moorfrost) provided commercial cold storage, stevedoring operations, and ships agents services for the fleets of these nations. The town of Bay Roberts and Harbour International Ltd. are hoping a solution will be found in 2003, since these fleets bring millions of dollars to the local economy both directly and indirectly.

Company Philosophy

The motivation of the Moores Group of companies is to always have the customers interest at heart. Their reputation within the industry is without reproach. Whatever the task, they strive to provide the very best service possible to greatly appreciated clients.
