Andrea Maunder owns and operates Bacalao, an award-winning restaurant dedicated to innovative Newfoundland cuisine. Andrea is living her lifelong dream, with a passionate focus on local produce, product, seafood, game and spirits. Andrea runs the front of house, is the self-taught pastry chef and wine director. (She is two-thirds of the way to being a sommelier).
Andrea has a deep commitment to promoting to the world, the best of what Newfoundland has to offer. She currently serves as (volunteer) Chair of the Restaurant Association of Newfoundland Labrador, and on the Destination St. John’s Partnership Committee. She writes a monthly food column for the Downhome Magazine and appears as wine expert on Rogers TV’s cooking show “One Chef One Critic”.
She is honoured to have been part of an all female, all-Newfoundland culinary team that cooked at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City. (She would love to have her own TV show someday – are you listening Food Network?!)
