Statement on Racism
As many are aware, throughout the world peaceful demonstrations are currently taking place to highlight and increase awareness of systemic racism in our society. The Town of Bay Roberts Council respects the peaceful demonstrations that are bringing necessary attention to systemic racism in our society.
Canada is a multicultural society where we recognize the value and dignity of Canadians of all races, ethnic groups, languages, and religions. Unfortunately, racism does not stop at borders; it exists in every country and community. We must each do our part to ensure we are engaged in creating a truly welcoming and inclusive community and society. Conversations dealing with the issue may be uncomfortable however, such conversations are essential in protecting the hallmark of our society; Equality ‘of all’ or ‘for all’.
The Town of Bay Roberts Council and staff are deeply committed to doing our part to help eradicate all forms of racism and create a truly just and welcoming municipality. We ask that our citizens stand up against racism in your neighbourhoods and stand against intolerance of others who are ethnically, racially, or religiously different from you.
As your Council, we will continue to keep Canada’s value of anti-racism and multiculturalism as a guiding principle in our policy and decision making.
